FAQs

Do I go to lab on the first day of class?
Yes, you must attend both lab and lecture on the first day of class. See the item below if you're not sure when we meet.
When does the class meet?
This depends on which section (CRN) you are enrolled in, so first check your schedule.

If you are enrolled in CRN 38516, you begin with lab in Room S325 at 11:15 a.m., and it runs until about 2:20 p.m. We then meet for lecture at 2:30 in Room S333, which ends at 3:55.

If you are enrolled in CRN 38517, you begin with lecture in Room S333 at 2:30; it ends at 3:55. Then you go to lab in Room S325 from 4:05 until about 7:10 (this lab is taught by Dr. Chen).

We meet for both lectures and labs every Tuesday and Thursday in which courses are in session.

Do I need the textbook on day one?
Usually yes (or at least access). If you’re waiting on financial aid/shipping, email me and bring what you can.
What calculator should I buy?
Use the model listed above (or on the syllabus). Most non‑programmable scientific calculators are fine; graphing models may be restricted.
What if I miss the first lab?
Labs are hard to “make up.” Contact me immediately; your options depend on the campus policy and lab capacity.
Is the class mostly math?
You’ll do frequent calculations (units, equations, graphs), but the goal is understanding chemistry concepts. Regular practice matters more than “being good at math.”
How should I contact you?
Email is best. Include the course number and section in your subject line. For grade‑related questions, use your campus email and avoid sharing sensitive information.
